31 arrests over Phulbari Clash, DEO report reveals clash started by Trinamool

SHILLONG, 8 Feb: A total of 31 people involved in the group clash at Charbatapara village of Phulbari, involving the Trinamool Congress and NPP supporters, have been arrested by Wednesday evening and the official report from the District Election Officer has revealed that the clash occurred after some TMC supporters hit the scorpio vehicle of NPP MDC Habibur Zaman who was passing through the village triggering a group clash.

Hub News had been the first to break the story on the actual involvement of certain political party supporters but was targeted and vilified by a section of groups that were out to frame their own side of the story bypassing the official report of the election commission.

Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer F R Kharkongor has told media persons in Shillong that according to the report received from the District Election Officer of West Garo Hills, the NPP MDC vehicle was hit by some Trinamool supporters which triggered the clash.

West Garo Hills police have bound 125 history sheeters and trouble mongers and they will be produced in court on Thursday to sign a bond ensuring good behaviour during the ongoing election campaign.

Meanwhile, security forces have staged a flag march in the affected area and orders have been issued to execute bonds for good behaviour against all trouble mongers in the region.

The Sub-Divisional officer of Dadenggre civil sub division, Abhishek Gowda along with the sub-divisional police officer and personnel of BSF and CRPF visited the place of occurence on Wednesday morning where they interacted with the locals.

Armed personnel from the district police, CRPF and BSF marched through the affected village of Charbatapara, Haribhanga and its adjoining areas to instill confidence among the public.

The officials also gave awareness on the need for peaceful conduct of free and fair elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2023.
