18-44 age group will receive vaccination in Meghalaya from May 14: Prestone

Shillong, May 12: The long wait for citizens above 18-44 years or age waiting to get their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination will finally come to an end. The Meghalaya government has decided that the vaccination drive for this age group will start on May 14.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that those vulnerable District will be earmarked more vaccines and those not vulnerable the health department will work out accordingly.

The government had earlier informed that they had ordered 42,000 doses and had made payments which was Rs 300 per dose. The government had also announced that the vaccination will be free of cost.

Tynsong stated that they are yet to ascertain how many people have pre-registered themselves for the vaccination. The health department will have a ear understanding soon.

The state government has also shown dissatisfaction with the vaccination drive carried out for 45-years above.

Tynsong said that only 37-38% have been vaccinated. He added that they are yet to reach the 40% mark.

“We have been urging the people above 45 years to take the vaccination but people are still not coming forward. The only solution is the individual who can help fight the virus,” said Tynsong.
