Shillong, June 10: The passing out parade of 12 K-9 ‘trainee police dogs’ and their handlers was held at Meghalaya Police Training School near Golf Links on Friday.
The newly graduated K-9 unit will join the K-9 squad of the Meghalaya Police. According to academy sources, the unit is the 1st batch of the dog squad completing the training at the dog squad.
Meghalaya Director General of Police, LR Bishnoi said that four dogs have been recruited in Meghalaya Police recently. However, with the hard work of the dog trainers, a total of 12 dogs have been tried in 9 months and 6 of them have been trained to handle explosives and the remaining others have been trained to deal with narcotics cases.
DGP Bishnoi also said that these police dogs have been given special training in view of the increase in narcotics cases in the state.
