2 dead, several injured in collision of trucks on Shillong Bypass

Shillong, June 9: In a horrifying incident, two people died and others sustained injuries when two trucks were involved in a head-on collision near the ICAR on Thursday morning at around 8:00 AM on the Umiam-Shillong Bypass Road in Ri Bhoi.

One truck bearing registration number WB-41-G-6998 en-route to Silchar collided with another truck bearing registration number NL-01-AE-3329 coming from the opposite direction on the Shillong Bypass road.

As per reports, the driver of West Bengal vehicle identified as S.K.Saraf died on the spot while the handyman, Sarif Hussain sustained minor injuries.

The truck drove by S.K. Saraf rammed into another small vehicle bearing registration number ML05 Y 0439, and also a pedestrian, Khandi Rabha (66), who was also injured in the collision and was rushed to Shillong Civil Hospital. Unfortunately, Rabha later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

The driver of the Nagaland vehicle fled the scene, and an investigation is underway.
