Tura, Jan 25: Facing heat to relinquish his position of CEM by majority of the MDCs of the NPP-led alliance in the GHADC, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) Benedic R. Marak has retaliated by removing three MDCs, challenging the party leadership to dare take action against him.
The three MDCs from the ruling alliance who have been removed from Chairman positions are Nogorpara NPP MDC Linekar K Sangma who was till today Chairman of Garo Hills Growers association, Chairman of the Planning Advisory Committee and NPP MDC Sengchim N Sangma, and Independent Zikzak MDC Aktar Ali from the post of Chairman of Forest Advisory Committee.
All three are part of the ruling alliance and Linekar K Sangma is related to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s family as a first cousin.
A notification was issued on Tuesday by CEM Benedic Marak stripping the three MDCs from their positions.
With the sudden stripping of power of the MDCs, the CEM has now given an open challenge to his own party leadership and it remains to be seen who will emerge victorious in this political game of supremacy in the district council.
