5 test positive for Omicron variant in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 4: Right when Meghalaya re-imposed Covid-19 related curbs as a pre-emptive measure to control the spread of coronavirus and especially the Omicron variant, the variant has managed to sneak into the State.

Five persons have been tested positive for the Omicron variant on Tuesday.

Confirming this, Principal Secretary in-charge Health & Family Welfare department, Sampath Kumar, said that of the total COVID-19 cases sent for genome sequencing, five were tested for the Omicron virus.

Of these, three are from Shillong in East Khasi Hills and two are from Ri Bhoi district, he informed.

He added that the two cases in Ri Bhoi are from Saiden village and in Shillong, one each from Langkyrding, Happy Valley and Laitumkhrah.
