5 years rigorous imprisonment for rape accused cop in Garo Hills

TURA, June 23: The special judge for POCSO cases and district sessions judge of East Garo Hills, M Skhemlon has sentenced a police unarmed constable to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ten thousand rupees for the sexual assault of an 8 year old child, a crime committed 9 years ago.

The verdict was given last month by the court after the investigation officer of the Women’s police station and investigation officer Smt. Nitu I Sangma presented a watertight case against the accused constable.

On 24th of January 2013 an FIR was registered against police constable Ajaybirth Ch Marak, unarmed branch police constable of East Garo Hills district police for molesting an 8 year old child in her house. The accused was soon arrested and charged with POCSO case and has since then been serving his prison term in Williamnagar jail, informed East Garo Hills SP Bruno A Sangma.
