Abducted village headman released by the NSCN (K-YA)

Dibrugarh, May 10: The NSCN(K-YA) on Tuesday finally released the Gaon Bura (village headman), Napho Boham from their captivity.

On the 7th of May, Napho Nigam was abducted by five NSCN(K-YA) cadres with long range weapons, dressed in combat.

Longding SP, Vikran Harimohan Meena confirmed the safe release of the Gaon Burah on Tuesday from the clutches of the insurgent group.

Napho Boham is the Gaon Bura of Lauksim village of Arunachal’s Longding district.

According to sources, the NSCN cadres had taken him into hiding in the jungles of the vicinity of Jaboka village at Nagaland’s Mon district.

Sources also said that the abductee was safely recovered after tremendous efforts by the security forces near Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh border.

A police official said that all out efforts were carried out by security forces for safe recovery of the abductee.

“The abductee was found visibly in good health and has been sent for further medical check up,” a police source said.

As per information, the abduction took place on the intervening night of May 7 and 8, when an armed group of suspected NSCN (K-YA) insurgents sneaked in from Laukun village of Mon district and abducted Gaon Burah.

A group of angry youth from Kanubari area came out in in protest against the abduction of the Gaon Burah. The youth expressed their deep resentment against the illegal activities of the insurgent groups operating in Longding district.

The Wancho youth and villagers of Kanubari area turned up in large numbers in Lauxim village, displaying placards and banners against the insurgents.

They shouted slogans to express their deep anger against the NSCN K-YA for kidnapping the Gaon Burah of Lauxim village.

Moreover, they unanimously pledged to secure an unconditional release of Mr Napho Boham from the captivity of NSCN K-YA insurgents.

Similar incidents have happened in the last few months in Tirap District as well, wherein the locals protested against the insurgent groups operating in TCL region.
