Tura, March 28: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), Tura, has expressed its concerns over the Voice of the People Party’s (VPP) move against the Roster system, stating that it is an attempt to invoke communal feelings among the people of Meghalaya.
In a letter, Bernita Bangsa Marak, the legal counsel of ACHIK, expressed that ACHIK, as a society and organization, condemns the VPP’s move to organize a rally against the Roster system, saying it promotes injustice to certain sections of the tribe. Marak explained that the Roster system, which was implemented by the High Court to uphold the job reservation policy of the state and curb corruption, was meant to check injustice.
“The organization completely denounces the Voice of People Party’s move against the Roster system and hopes for better conscience,” she said.
She further said research shows that Garo’s quota is always unfilled, and an average of 33% is allotted to A’chiks, which was accepted by the High Court. Hence, the Roster System was adjudged to uphold the State Reservation Policy by the High Court.
Marak also emphasized, “The voice against the judgment of the High Court is a contempt in nature.”
