SHILLONG, Sept 7: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said action will be taken against those involved in facilitating movement of illegal coal trucks.
“…all the people who have been caught (in such illegal acts) action will be taken against them,” Sangma told reporters when responding to a query on alleged existence of a “high level” which facilitates the movement of illegal coal trucks in the state.
The HITO had also lodged an FIR with the Mawryngkneng police station against 18 illegal coal trucks and claimed that “almost all the drivers of such illegal trucks have claimed that permission was being given by the high level.”
Whether action will be taken against people behind the “high level”, Sangma however said his government has been the most strict when it comes to action against any kind of illegal movement that is taking place.
“I am very clear from day one that anything that has to happen has to be with proper, legal and proper documentation and we are firm on that. We have always taken action and in fact I have been maintaining from day one that this government has been the most strict when it comes to action against any kind of illegal movement that is taking place.”
Stating that there are lots of other agencies which are monitoring the entire movement, the chief minister said, “The question of these kinds of activities happening in their way of understanding doesn’t arise because as I said there are so many layers of monitoring that is taking place but while we do that we cannot obviously deny that there could be individuals who try to slip and try to move around and when they are caught they would be using excuses but in many cases you have seen more than 100 and 1000 of vehicles have been caught and many people have been arrested and continuous efforts are on.”
“Just because there is a law against say murder it doesn’t mean that murder doesn’t take place, there are laws to ensure that actions are taken against all those who ultimately break the law. But we are very clear and firm on it and all the people who have been caught, action will be taken against them,” he added.
