Tura, Aug 29: The District Sports Office (DSO) of Tura organised an Inter School Volleyball Tournament for both boys and girls as part of the National Sports Days Celebration, 2023 at the Matchakolgre L. P. School field on Monday under the Fit India campaign in association with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.

This is the first ever inter school volleyball event that the District Sports Office of Tura has organized.

In the event, 11 teams including both boys and girls from different schools across Tura participated.

All the teams showed immense talent and enthusiasm displaying intense matches amongst them.

The final match of the tournament was between Akongre Secondary School and St. John’s Secondary School of the boy’s division where the Akongre Secondary School won the championship.

In the girl’s division, the match was between Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School and New Tura Secondary School, in which the Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School girls team won the championship.

The event was also attended by Winje R G Momin, Additional Deputy Commissioner, to give a moral boost to the participants and commence the tournament. In her speech, she said the mere participation of the kids proves that there is enthusiasm and passion into playing sports. The winners of this tournament received a beautiful trophy along with a hefty amount of Rs. 7000 and the runners up were given Rs. 5000 along with the runners up trophy.

Speaking to Hub news, District Sports Officer, Saljagring M Marak, said, “Just like we organised this volleyball tournament, we will also organise other sport events like inter school table tennis, badminton and boxing in the near future.”
