Shillong, July 5: As the Meghalaya unit of BJP deals with internal turmoil over leadership and its functioning, senior BJP leader and Health Minister AL Hek has expressed that he is willingness to helm the affairs of the party if the high command of the party tells him to do so.
“Such decision should be taken by the national leadership. (However), if they ask me to lead the party, I am a person who will not shy away from responsibilities,” Hek told reporters on Monday.
His reaction comes in response to the statement made by BJP National Council member, Bashailang Khongwir that there is no harm for Hek as cabinet minister to take over as state president if majority of state party leaders and functionaries are supporting him.
“I am very thankful to those friends and party workers who have expressed their confidence in me and I will not shy away from that responsibility, if it comes,” he stated.
At the same time, Hek maintained that there are no quibbles in the State BJP. “If they are saying that all is not well in the BJP, it is their opinion but to me all is well in the state BJP,” he said while adding that everybody can have their own opinion in a democracy.
Reacting to infighting in the state unit, he opined that efforts will be made to resolve the differences at the state level, without having to trouble the central leadership with the issue. He reiterated that there is good understanding in the party and every problem will always have a solution.
