Imphal, Jan 6: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several projects in Manipur.
Shah inagurated projects costing around Rs 300 crore while also laying foundation stones costing around Rs 10,000 crore for the Northeastern State.
The Union Home Minister inaugurated the first Olympic Park in the Northeast at Sangaithel hillock in Manipur. The park will accommodate statues of every of State’s sports persons participating in the Olympics in the future.
An excellent training centre will be created at the Olympics Park in consultation with Samsung, for which necessary machines are expected to arrive by January 15 to provide training facilities in judo, weightlifting and boxing.
Shah also hoisted the 165 feet National flag at IMA headquarters at Moirang.
While addressing a programme at Moirang, Amit Shah said, “We are committed to work to wipe out drugs from Manipur. Opium cultivation will be wiped out from Manipur; our government has been committed to a ‘Drug free society’. In the last five years, BJP has worked for all round development in Manipur.”
“In the last 8 years, BJP has given Rs 3.45 lakh crore for the Northeast but the previous government had failed to provide any funds for the development of Northeast region. Now, Northeast has become free from insurgency; most of the militant organisations have laid down arms and joined peace talks. Our main priority is to work for the overall development of the Northeast zee,” Shah asserted.
The Union Minister further stated that the government has been working on connectivity. “Northeast region is the integral part of India and our government has been committed to develop the areas,” he said.
“For the development of the Northeast, our government has been working in all sectors. Under ‘Act East Policy’ the government has been prioritising the infrastructure sector,” Shah added.
