Ampareen Lyngdoh to apprise CM of crucial lack of manpower in WKH district

Shillong, June 28: Following a zonal meeting with MLAs from West Khasi Hills District relating to the health facilities in the districts, Meghalaya health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh will apprise the chief minister of the crucial lack of manpower in this district.

Lyngdoh said that the medical officers of various PHCs, CHCs discussed about the crucial matter of manpower. “We are well aware of this matter and we are seeking for an appointment with the chief minister. We will bring to his attention immediate requirement for specially specialist, super specialist and even MBBS doctors in our systems,” stated Lyngdoh.

She said that some of the areas in West Khasi Hills are very far flung not reachable. She added that 40% of West Khasi Hills alone does not have motorable access and that there was a huge requirement to supply ambulances to these regions.

The first zonal meeting of MLAs in West Khasi Hills was held yesterday in Nongstoin. Apart from the 4 MLAs belonging to WKH, MOs, nursing staff, supervisors, DHS and NHM were part of the meeting.

“A lot of queries on efficiency of health service centre in and around wkh was discussed and we took random spot inspections and also went to few facilities. We also looked at the various facilities at the civil hospital. Also feel we have to look at the possibility of initiating a tuberculosis centre there. We need to have a full fledged hospital,” said Lyngdoh.

In the meeting, there was also discussion about the supply of medicines as well and it will be taken up with the CM.

“We need to figure out quickly how to ensure that indented medicines from the districts are going to reach the districts ASAP. In the meanwhile the new authority that has been in place is not fully functional so some amount of funds have been released to districts to ensure that essential medicines are not to be compromised and all facilities have,” said Lyngdoh.
