Shillong, Feb 7: The National People’s Party’s (NPP) MP candidate from the Shillong Parliamentary seat, Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh, has stated that she steers clear of online election battles with social media “keyboard warriors”. Instead, her focus remains steadfastly on serving the best interests of the state’s residents.
Addressing a public meeting in Sohiong on Wednesday, Lyngdoh said social media accounts dedicated to posting negative comments about the party should not be granted any special recognition or certificates. She encouraged individuals with concerns to come forward openly, discouraging the use of fake accounts for criticism.
In response to allegations branding the NPP as an outsider party, Dr. Ampareen asserted that the NPP is the sole national party from Meghalaya officially recognized in Delhi.
Commenting on the divisive nature of politics, Lyngdoh criticized efforts to create divisions under the banner of ‘Jaitbynriew,’ stressing the unity of Meghalaya, which comprises the Khasi, Jaiñtia, and Garo tribes.
Expressing confidence in securing victory in the upcoming MP election, Lyngdoh also gave an account of the votes needed by the party to secure a victory. According to her and the party’s assessment, they aim to secure 8000 votes from non-NPP MLA constituencies and over 10,000 from constituencies with sitting NPP MLAs.
“To win the Shillong seat, we need to secure more than ten thousand votes from NPP MLA constituencies and eight thousand votes from constituencies without NPP MLAs… then we will receive more than 3 lakhs twenty thousand votes or 3 lakhs twenty-five thousand votes to win the MP election,” explained Lyngdoh.
