Shillong, March 29: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has condemned the recent statement made by VPP Chief Ardent Basaiawmoit, and accused him of allegedly trying to obtain political mileage by misrepresenting the Roster system, which are allegedly aimed at causing disharmony.
The GSU said the roster system is a traditional method and it is very well-established and an efficient system that has been in place for decades. However, Basaiawmoit’s statement has caused concern among the members of the Garo community.
In a statement Zikku Balgra N. Marak, the president of GSU Central Executive Committee, expressed disappointment with Basaiawmoit’s remarks, and also put to question Basaiawmoit’s intention.
“It has to be questioned as to what the VPP President Shri. Ardent Basaiawmoit is trying to achieve or what his intention are by providing wrong assessment to the people about the roster system,” questioned Marak.
He further alleged that, “The VPP president seems to be hugely in favour of backdoor appointments, job for money and nepotism and a deeply vested interest to deprive the Garo Community of opportunity.”
The GSU emphasized that the Roster system is a very efficient, transparent, and effective system in place that has been approved by the Meghalaya High Court, and regretted such an approach from a seasoned politician.
