Assam: 1 drugs peddler killed in police encounter, heroin worth Rs 2 crore seized

Guwahati, Oct 26: In war against drugs, 600 grams of suspected heroin worth over Rs 2 crore were recovered from the encounter site. As per reports, a fierce gun-battle between police and members of drugs mafia took place at Lahorijan in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Oct 25 evening. One drugs peddler has reportedly sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. The police have also recovered a pistol and ammunition from the encounter site.

Assam special DGP GP Singh in a tweet said, “After an exchange of fire with drug peddlers, about 600 gram heroin, one pistol and ammunition were recovered at Lahorijan area by @karbianglongpol. One injured person was also found with bullet injuries and shifted to hospital,”


Assam police have started massive crackdown against drugs in the state. So far many drugs peddlers along with huge quantity of contraband were seized by police.

“Due to the crackdown against drugs, the drug smugglers are using several techniques to trafficked drugs to their destination. The drug peddlers are using railways to trafficked drugs to their destination,” said a source.

It may be mentioned that recently Tinsukia police arrested a lady with suspected heroin of around 110 grams in Tinsukia railway station. The lady have been identified as- Chitchawali Engleng of Nagaland. According to police, the lady was coming from Dimapur by train to hand over the drugs to one person.
