Tinsukia, April 15:The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) on Friday staged one-hour road blockade at Duliajan-Tinsukia road with the dead body of the minor girl, who was allegedly raped on March 20, 2023.
The protesters blocked the road at Bahadur Chariali in Tinsukia, disrupting traffic.
The mother of the minor girl committed suicide on Friday at her residence.
The protesters burnt tyres seeking justice for the minor girl and her mother, who committed suicide due to shame.
According to reports, on March 20, 2023, the minor girl aged 13 years was allegedly raped by a 53-year-old man at tea estate under Bordoubi police station in Tinsukia district. The accused has been absconding since March 29.

The accused identified as Shiva Prasad Sharma alias Somendra of Goipani Nepali village lured the minor girl with chocolate and took her to a tea garden located near the Doomdooma bypass at around 3pm and then proceeded to rape her.
The girl, who belongs to the tea community, was later found by locals in a critical condition and was taken to the Tinsukia civil hospital by her family members where rape was confirmed.
“On March 21, 2023, a FIR was lodged at Bordoubi police station and a case has been registered vide Bordubi PS CN 39/2023, us 376(3) /506 IPC, RW sec 04 of POCSO act. The accused person is absconding from that time. But on April 14 (Friday) at about 11 am the mother of the victim minor girl committed suicide,” said a member of AASAA.
He said, “The police have failed to arrest the accused. Due to the negligence of the Tinsukia police, the accused has been roaming freely. We demand that the accused should be arrest immediately. The mother of the minor girl committed suicide due to shame.”
The protesters also submitted memorandum to ADC Kangkan Jyoti Saikia, after which the road was cleared.
