Accoding to police, the arrested cadre has been identified as Santosh Lama alias Apu Asom (24), who was arrested near Biri Basti under Jagun Police outpost in the Tinsukia district.

Tinsukia SP Debojit Deuri said, “We had received a secret information regarding the movements of ULFA-I cadres trying to cross over from Myanmar, a joint operation was launched and we have arrested Santosh Lama, a ULFA-I cadre, who has taken training from a ULFA-I camp Myanmar.”

“After interrogation, the ULFA-I cadre Santosh Lama revealed that he saw a dead body Bijay Gogoi, an AASU leader who went missing during the CAA protest and later it was confirmed that he joined the ULFA-I,” Deuri said.

The SP further informed that Lama took training in a batch of 35 cadres, an important revelation which authenticates reports of several youth joining ULFA-I last year.

Sources said ULFA-I’s trusted henchmen are working for the rebel outfit and brainwashing the youth of rural areas to join the proscribed organisation.
