Assam BJP announces 70 canditates name for upcoming Assembly polls

Guwahati, March 5: The central leadership of BJP on Friday announced the names of 70 candidates names for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

The first phase of the election is to be held on March 27.

The party has denied tickets to as many as 11 sitting MLAs.

National Secretary of BJP, Arun Singh said that the names of 70 candidates who will contest the elections on BJP tickets.

He informed that as many as 11 sitting MLAs shall be deprived of tickets, and new faces such as defeated Congresswoman Ajanta Neog will take their place.

Singh said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will contest from the Majuli constituency and Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest from his current constituency Jalukbari.
On the other hand, Assam State BJP president Ranjit Dass will contest from Pathacharkuchi constituency.

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika will contest from Jagiroad constituency.

The candidates were finalized during the meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the BJP held on Thursday night under the chairmanship of the party’s national president JP Nadda.

On the other hand, BJP’s ally will contest in 26 seats and the UPPL will contest in 8 seats.
