Guwahati, Feb 5: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today said the upgradation project at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport will help it become a key player in India’s aviation landscape, offering world-class amenities and infrastructure to passengers.
The upgrade aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, experience, and ease of travel. The inauguration ceremony took place at the airport premises in the presence of dignitaries and stakeholders.
As part of the modernization efforts, the entry lanes have been increased from eight to 14, while departure lanes have expanded from three to four. The project also includes the installation of four new DigiYatra Gates, which will facilitate faster and contactless passenger processing. Additionally, the security check-in area has been expanded from 300 to 450 square meters, featuring added screening queues and new furniture to improve passenger flow.

A key highlight of the upgrades is the construction of a 140-meter architectural wall, which adds a distinctive aesthetic element to the terminal. Furthermore, 300 square meters of new garden spaces have been developed to enhance the ambience and provide a more pleasant experience for travellers. The refreshed terminal now boasts upgraded retail, dining, and recreational facilities, offering passengers a modern and comfortable travel environment.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr Sarma emphasized the swift completion of the project within two months, highlighting its significance in promoting the LGBI Airport as a gateway for both national and international travellers. He noted that the enhanced facilities were strategically planned to welcome delegates attending the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 summit.
“The new terminal under construction at LGBI Airport is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once fully operational, it will position the airport as a crucial hub connecting Southeast Asian nations,” Dr. Sarma stated.
