Guwahati, June 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday issued a stern reprimand to the Nalbari District Commissioner for disregarding instructions to serve a simple vegetarian meal at the cabinet meeting held in the district on Thursday (June 27, 2024).
CM Sarma expressed his displeasure in a formal letter addressed to Varnali Deka, District Commissioner of the Nalbari.
The letter (NO. CMO.1/2024/4560), addressed to DC Nalbari, stated: “In spite of repeated instructions from this office to arrange a simple vegetarian meal during the Cabinet Meeting held on 27/06/2024 at Nalbari, you have not followed the instruction accordingly.”
CM Sarma further emphasized, “I express my extreme displeasure for such action on your part. Henceforth, such instructions should be carried out scrupulously.”
It is noteworthy that the Assam Cabinet has been holding meetings in different districts since May 2021 after the formation of the Sarma-led BJP government in the state. The cabinet took this decision as part of the government’s efforts to improve administrative efficiency and decentralize decision-making processes.
Among other guidelines, the felicitation of CM with Gamocha (scarf) / flower bouquet must be avoided strictly, and no gift item to be offered to the CM during the cabinet. Also, the cabinet has prescribed a vegetarian menu, a local tribal style menu, and tea in earthen cups during the meet.
