Guwahati, Feb 16: In preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections, political parties in Assam have begun the process of selecting their candidates. Among them, the Congress party is poised to contest in 12 constituencies within the state.
This decision comes after extensive internal deliberations within the party’s leadership, aiming to strategize the most effective approach to challenge the ruling party in Assam.
Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah confirmed that the party has already finalized candidates for five constituencies, with plans to contest in a total of 12 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.
While the Congress has solidified its candidates for five seats, it is anticipated that it will leave some of the remaining nine seats for parties aligned with the United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA).
President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Bhupen Borah, stated that the final decision regarding candidates for the remaining nine constituencies will be made by February 20th.
With a total of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, the upcoming elections are poised to be a significant political battleground for various parties set to represent the state.
