Guwahati, April 8: April 08, 2022 can very well be marked as a historic day for Assam, especially its rural belt, as the first commercial consignment of tender jackfruit and green chilli was exported to Dubai from Dhubri district of Assam.
It is the first time in the history of Assam that Jackfruits are being exported to Dubai from the state. On this auspicious occasion, District Deputy Commissioner, Anbamuthan MP flagged off the consignment on Friday evening from Bilasipara town.
The consignment exported on Friday consists of 1.5 tonne tender jackfruit and more than 0.5 tonne of green chillies, which will be distributed and traded by Lulu Group International through its chain of more than 225 Supermarkets and Hyper Markets throughout Gulf Countries.
The whole process is coordinated by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). They gave all required technical support and expert guidance for the process.
After flagging off the consignment, DC Dhubri Anbamuthan MP said, “It is a special day for the agro-economic sector of Dhubri district as well as for entire Assam. With much coordination and relentless and collaborative efforts of the District Administration, APEDA, Agricultural University, KVK and most importantly farmers and their FPO, we are able to export the tender jackfruit and green chilli from Dhubri to Dubai”.
Lulu Group International and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) officials who are looking after the technical aspects required for packaging were constantly collaborating and were present during the entire process to export the jackfruit and green chilli to Dubai from Dhubri.
Abul Kalam Azad, member of the concerned FPO (Farmer Producer Organisation), described the whole process saying, “We were eagerly waiting for this day for years. We are trying to export green chilli and tender jackfruit from last six months. DC sir and SDO(Civil) Sir helped us all the time. We are grateful to them.”
District Agriculture Officer, Dhubri, said, “Dhubri produces a lot of agri-products which have huge potential for export. This chance came at an exhibition in Guwahati organised by APEDA where our FPO member first met the Lulu Group International representatives. I hope we can make other agri-products also ready for export soon.”
The Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) namely, Green Chilli Producer Organization Cooperative Society Ltd which has around 560 shareholder farmers from Bilasipara and Nayer Alga Development Block area has produced the exported items, which will continue on a weekly basis.
