GUWAHATI, Jan 6: A doctor of Barpeta Civil Hospital was physically assaulted by a relative of a patient following an altercation in Assam’s Barpeta district on Thursday.

The doctor has been identified as Bablu Das.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident.

The accused have been identified as Ohab Ali, Jahangir Alam, and Monirul Ali.

“A relative of the patient asked Dr Babul Das about Dr Zakir Hussain, a doctor in the maternity department. Dr Bablu Das replied with the details, but they weren’t satisfied with his answer and physically attacked the doctor in a fit of rage,” said a medical source.

Talking to media persons, the assaulted doctor said, “Four-Five people came and enquired about Dr Zakir Hussain and (I) replied to visit the next room, if not (then to) enquire (from) the reception area. After that the miscreants banged on the door wherein female patients were being examined and charged and assaulted me.”

“We have arrested three persons in connection with the incident and our investigation is going on,” said a police official.
