Dispur, Mar 29: The Government of Assam has extended the duration of four districts within the state as “Disturbed Area” under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.
The Assam Police in collaboration with the Home and Political Department, submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, seeking an extension of the “Disturbed Area” status for Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Sivasagar districts.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has advised maintaining the “status-quo” for an additional six months, effective from April 1, 2024
As per the police the areas require special attention due to the continuous presence of militant organizations one militant group remains active in these districts, prompted the authorities to prolong the disturbed area status for the areas.
