Assam: Head-on collision in Dibrugarh leaves 2 dead, several injured

Dibrugarh, Sept 11: In a tragic incident, two people were killed and several injured after their vehicle collided head-on with a truck at Leptakatta area in upper Assam, Dibrugarh, on Sunday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Abu Baker Dewan, a diver, and Pushpa Surekha Agarwal (65).

Earlier, it was wrongly reported, but now the police and hospital authority have clarified that two people died and five others were seriously injured at AMCH.

The injured have been identified as Satish Kumar Agarwal (45), Pompy Agarwal (42), Krishna Kumar Agarwal (25), Nirmal Kumar Agarwal (70), Namal Agarwal, and Golo Agarwal.

“Two people were killed in the road accident. Seven family members were travelling in an Innova car when the car collided head-on with a truck. Near the Leptakatta diversion, the accident occurred. The other family members are undergoing treatment at the hospital,” said the officer-in-charge of Borbaruah police station.

According to reports, they were travelling in an Innova car (AS-01-JC 3076), which collided with a truck of Haryana registration.

According to the police, all were from the same family and residents of Guwahati Flat No. 4 in the ABC area.

Meanwhile, police have reached the spot and started an investigation.

“Its a very sad incident. We have heard a loud sound. When we came out, we have saw a accident between a truck and a Innova car. The injured were taken to hospital and some of them were spot dead. The area has been accident prone and many accident happened in the particular area due to over speeding,” said a local resident.

Recently, seven people died on the spot after the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a mini Punjab body truck on Tuesday (Sept. 5) in Kakopathar’s eastern Assam Tinsukia district.

The passengers were returning from Doomdooma’s weekly market when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with the mini-good truck.

“The accidents are happening due to overspeeding and carelessness while driving. Many accidents took place in the upper Assam area this week, and many people died. While driving, everybody should be extra vigilant and follow all traffic and safety features,” said a police official.
