Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma counters Kejriwal with the idea of ‘five national capitals’

Must read

Guwahati, Aug 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday proposed five national capitals, one for each zone, to end regional disparity in the country.

The senior BJP leader, in a series of tweets, continued his tirade against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with whom he has been engaged in a war of words on Twitter. “Having been engaged in a dialogue with Delhi CM Shri @ArvindKejriwal, who’s by now in habit of mocking at other states, I’m of the view that we should work on curing the disease of disparity, and not mock poor states. Can we have 5 Capitals of India, one in every zone?” Sarma tweeted.

Later, speaking to the media to explain his stand, Sarma said, “The issue is Delhi is the capital of India and in the prosperity of Delhi, people from across the country have contributed including people from Assam… Delhi’s GDP is Rs. 14 lakh crore and they run 1200 schools, our DGP is Rs. 5 lakh crores and we run over 40,000 schools. So people like Kejriwal should take a lot of time to understand this country, they don’t know this country… So I have tweeted, country should have five capitals, one in each zone, then Delhi CM will never mock NE States.”
