Assam: Hundreds of police complaints filed against Rahul Gandhi over ‘seditious’ tweet

Must read

Guwahati, Feb 15: The political sparring between Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma continued on Tuesday with the latter presenting “videographic evidence” of the surgical strike, after Rao came out in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s demand of evidence of the surgical strike from the Centre.

At the same time, the Assam unit of BJP through its frontal organizations filed hundreds of police complaints against Rahul Gandhi for his ‘spirit of India’ tweet last week. The filing of the sedition case against Gandhi comes at a time when Congress’ student wing has launched protests against the Assam Chief Minister for his ‘Father – Son’ remark against the Wayanad MP.

Assam BJP Sources have added that their frontal organisations like the Yuva Morcha and Mahila Morcha plan to lodge atleast one thousand police complaint against Gandhi, accusing him of sedition for his tweet saying, “India exists from Gujarat to West Bengal”, thereby conceding to Chinese demand of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Wayanad MP, in a tweet on February 10, had tweet: “There is strength in our Union. Our Union of Cultures. Our Union of Diversity. Our Union of Languages. Our Union of People. Our Union of States, From Kashmir to Kerala. From Gujarat to West Bengal. India is beautiful in all its colours. Don’t insult the spirit of India.”

In the police complaints filed so far, interestingly, the content is similar in each one of the complaints. The complaint states: “(it) is apparent that Rahul Gandhi through the aforesaid Tweet has supported and propagated the narrative of the Chinese Government that North Eastern India more particularly Arunachal Pradesh is not a part of India and by doing so, Sri Rahul Gandhi has deliberately acted against the Sovereignty and Integrity of our great nation of India… an attempt has been made to disintegrate our nation more particularly seceding the North Eastern States from the rest of the country and thereby encouraged disharmony and feeling of alienation of the North Eastern people from the people of the rest of India. In other words, the act of Rahul Gandhi tantamount to wage or attempt to a wage war against the Government of India by changing the boundary of the country, separating the North Eastern States from the rest of India and thereby he has joined the campaign of China against the territorial boundary of our country. This act is directly an attempt on the part of Rahul Gandhi and Indian National Congress to wage a war against the Government of India so far as sovereignty and integrity of the country is concerned.”

According to Assam police sources, the complaints have been received and will be examined.
