Assam institutes Judicial Inquiry to probe Mukroh firing incident, suspends police and forest officials

Shillong, Nov 22: Following the firing incident at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday morning, which borders the West Karbi Anglong District of Assam, the Assam government has instituted a Judicial Inquiry under a Retired Judge of High Court to ascertain the facts, circumstances and the exact reasons of the incident.

The Government of Assam has also decided to hand over the investigation of the entire incident to a Central/ neutral agency, a press statement by Assam government stated.

The Assam government has also suspended the Officer in-charge of Jirikinding Police Station, Kajal Nath, and Forest Protection Officer in-charge of Kheroni Forest Range, Shikari Enghi. In addition, Superintendent of Police, West Karbi Anglong, Imdad Ali, has been transferred.

Further, Assam government has decided to provide Rs 5,00,000 each to the next of kin of the 6 deceased persons, who died in the incident of firing.

Mentionably, six persons including five from Meghalaya were killed while two others were seriously injured in the Assam police firing at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday morning.
