Must read

Shillong, Feb 7: The wait for the final resolution on the settlement of the Assam-Meghalaya boundary dispute in atleast six locations is set to be longer as the meeting of the chief ministers of the two States with Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been postponed again.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday informed that they were already supposed to have the meeting but it was deferred.

“In fact we were supposed to meet but then the meeting was postponed again. So we will wait for the call from the union home minister,” he said.

On January 29, Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had finalized the agreement on the first 6 of 12 areas of difference.

“We have come to an understanding in the first six locations and I don’t think we will be having another meeting with the Assam CM as we have finalized everything. Now we will wait for the Government of India to call us. Based on that, we will be able to come out with the final resolution for the first six areas of difference,” the chief minister had informed.

The six areas of difference under the first phase include Tarabari (4.69 sq km), Gizang (13.53 sq km), Hahim (3.51 sq km), Boklapara (1.57 sq kms), Khanapara-Pilangkata (2.29 sq kms) and Ratacherra (11.20 sq kms).
