Shillong, Dec 8: Two of the three regional committees on Assam – Meghalaya border dispute submitted their final report to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday, which has been compiled with extensive filed visits and interaction with residents of villages along with Assam-Meghalaya border as well as land records. Regional Committees of West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi district submitted their respective reports on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Ri-Bhoi Regional Committee, Prestone Tynsong was accompanied by MLA Dasakhiat Lamare, Ri-Bhoi district Deputy Commissioner and other officials. Similarly, West Khasi Hills Regional Committee chairman Renikton Tongkhar submitted the report to the Chief Minister and was accompanied by members of his Committee, MLA Macmillan Byrsat, MLA Gigur Myrthong and MLA Brolding Nongsiej.

Interacting with media persons after receiving the reports, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the government will study the report of the two regional committees and, subsequently, convene a meeting with the stakeholders in the state and also meet his Assam counterpart.
“Once we go through the entire report, which we will do very quickly, because we want to call the stakeholders after this and then we also want to have the meeting with some counterparts after that,” Sangma said.
He also expressed gratitude to the members of regional committees who travelled to interior locations to conduct the inspection.
“As I said, a lot of hard work has gone in and we will definitely do justice to it by going through it in detail. And then further discussing with other stakeholders and taking their opinions within the state and then, at the earliest, meet the Assam counterparts and try to take this forward to a logical conclusion,” he said.
