Assam police arrests known drug smuggler in Jorabat, recover over 21 kg cannabis

Nongpoh, April 5: The Jorabat Police of Assam on Wednesday arrested a well known drug smuggler and seized Rs. 63,3000 cash and 21.6 kg of cannabis from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Bindeshwar Rai (65), a resident of Mukundpur Garahi in Vaishali district of Bihar. He was arrested from 8 Mile area on Assam side under Jorabat police outpost during a campaign led by Jorabat police post in-charge Kapil Pathak.

The Police informed that the accused is a well known cannabis smuggler in Khanapara area and along the Meghalaya-Assam border for a long period of time. The accused is currently under custody and the Police is investigating the matter by registering an FIR in this regard under the NDPS Act.
