Guwahati, Jan 24: Barpeta police on Tuesday seized threatening letters of a self-proclaimed jihadi group from Bahari Bunagohain temple premises in Assam’s Barpeta district.

The letters recovered from the Bahari Bunagohain Than were found undersigned by Bandali Jehadi fan club, threatening to carry out cow sacrifice inside the temple premises in the year 2024, said a police official.

The letters also challenged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, asking his government to carry out an eviction drive at the Bandali forest reserve. Additionally, the group even asked CM Sarma to consume beef.

“We have seized all the letters and started our investigation. Right now, we can’t say much about the case,” said police official.

Speaking to media persons, Bahari Satra Samiti President Kiran Medhi said, “We got some posters infront of our temple. They claimed to be Bandali Jehadi fan club. That’s why we informed the police and police seized the materials. We condemn this incident. This is done by some miscreants to create polarisation. They even challenged Assam CM. They have said very bad words against the Satra.”

For many years, Bahari Bunagohain Than has been conducting Akhand Bhagawat Path.
