Assam: Principal suspended for sexually assaulting minor girl student at school campus

Guwahati, May 21: The Secondary of Education department of Assam suspended the principal of Karimganj’s Bhanga Higher Secondary school for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl at the school campus.

The principal identified as Asar Uddin.

On May 18, a complaint was lodged at Badarpur Police Station.

Meanwhile, police registered a case against the principal under Protection of Children from the Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and some other sections of Indian Penal Code(IPC).

According to police, the principal is absconding since Friday.

“We have launched a search operation to nab him,” said a police official.

According to the police, the minor girl went through medical tests and her statement has been recorded.

The director of Secondary Education, Assam, Mamata Hojai in the suspension letter, wrote that the inspector of schools, Karimganj submitted a report regarding the alleged sexual harassment.

The inspector of schools in the report to Mamata Hojai mentioned that Badarpur police are investigating the matter and sufficient evidence is available against Asar Uddin.
