Guwahati, April 17: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state has seen a record rise of 575 per cent in tourist arrival in 2022-23.
After inaugurating a resort at Sonapur, Assam chief minister tweeted, “Over 1 crore tourists visited Assam in FY 2023, a record growth of 575%!”
“To augment better tourism infrastructure, I was glad to inaugurate a beautiful 200-room-resort built by the Mayfair Group near Guwahati. My best wishes to the management,” Sarma tweeted.
Assam Tourism Development Corporation MD Padmapani Bora informed that around 17.5 lakh domestic arrivals had been recorded in 2021-22.
Bora said of the 11.8 million tourists who visited the Northeast, Assam’s contribution was about 10 million.
