Guwahati, March 7: The race for political control in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) has officially begun, with the Assam State Election Commission announcing that polls for its 36 constituencies will be held on April 2. The crucial vote counting will take place on April 4, while a re-poll, if necessary, will be conducted on April 3.
A total of 4,45,586 voters, including 2,16,181 male voters, 2,29,394 female voters and 11 others will exercise their franchise in 630 polling stations.
The last date for filing nominations is scheduled for March 15, and withdrawal of candidature is March 19.
Out of 36 constituencies, 25 seats are reserved for ST (Scheduled Tribes), 6 seats are reserved for women, and 11 seats are unreserved.
The RHAC, formed by the Assam government, plays a pivotal role in the economic, educational, socio-cultural, and ethnic development of the Rabha community, an indigenous Assamese tribe categorized under the Plains Scheduled Tribes.
Originally comprising 306 revenue villages, the Council’s jurisdiction expanded to 779 villages following a government notification on May 17, 2005. The election commission has capped the maximum expenditure limit at ₹2.50 lakh per candidate. For campaign strategies, national and state-recognized parties can field up to 20 star campaigners, while registered unrecognized parties can have 10.
