Assam: Three girls rescued from Lahowal railway station in Dibrugarh

Guwahati, Jan 29: Dibrugarh police rescued three minor girls from Lahowal Railway station in upper Assam Dibrugarh on Saturday.

Police also detained two youth identified as Hemant Gogoi and Budhin Gogoi.

Sources said the human traffickers were taking the girls to Bangalore by rail with the promise of employment.

“The three teenage girls were from Joypur in Dibrugarh district and they were lured to Bengaluru on the pretext of working outside the state,” said a source.

“One Swift Dzire has also been seized by the Lahowal police, bearing registration number AS 23 F 7761,” said a police official.

Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police(HQ) Bitul Chetia said, “The girls fled from their house and decided to go to Bengaluru for job. A team of police rescued them from Lahowal police.”

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to unearth the case.
