Guwahati, April 8: Amidst massive crackdown against Popular Front of India (PFI), Assam police on Saturday arrested two top leaders of the banned outfit PFI from Barpeta district.
The leaders were arrested from Barpeta Railway Station along with one Campus Front of India (CFI) member.
The two PFI leaders have been identified as Zakir Hussain and Samad Ahmed and the CFI member has been identified as Jahidul Islam Mirdha.
The leader has been absconding since the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) nationwide crackdown on the organisation, earlier this year.
Assam police have launched a massive crackdown against PFI since last year and so far many members and leaders associated with the organisation have been arrested.
According to reports, Samad Ahmed is the President of the PFI Assam State committee, Zakir Hussain is the secretary of state committee while Jahidul Islam is the President of CFI Assam committee.
According to police, the CFI leader was taken into custody on April 7(Friday) by an Assam Police team led by a DSP-rank official in Bellundur, Bengalur.
Amir Hamza was the accused, according to the police. They claimed Hamza was hiding in Bengaluru with a few Tripura families.
