Guwahati, Mar 10: The Assam govt today unveiled its 2025-26 Budget with a total outlay of Rs. 2,63,673 crore focussing on economic growth, infrastructure, industrial development, welfare initiatives, and cultural preservation.
The budget highlights Assam’s remarkable economic progress, with the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growing at 19% in FY 2023-24, outpacing the national average. The state’s per capita income has also seen a steady rise. The government has maintained fiscal prudence, ensuring that the debt-to-GSDP ratio remains within the prescribed 32% limit. The total budget utilization is projected at Rs. 1,41,529 crore, with capital expenditure set at Rs. 24,964 crore.
“The increase of budgetary expenditure by 250 percent in less than 10 years is perhaps one of its kind in our
nation’s fiscal history,” Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog said in her 114 page budget sppech.
She said in the 2023-24 financial year, Assam recorded a growth of 19 percent in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), and 17 percent in Per Capita Income, making it one of the fastest-growing states in the country.
The minister said the budget proactively addresses fundamental concerns—most notably, a specific action plan for the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, reaffirming our commitment to preserving Assam’s rich cultural legacy.
Ahe said it also reinforces and expands an inclusive economic agenda, ensuring empowerment across all sections of society. Women – both school going and entrepreneurs – remain central to our vision. Youth will benefit from enhanced education, skill development, and employment opportunities, while farmers will receive greater support through remunerative pricing for paddy, maize, and mustard.
” It is a people-centric welfare budget, designed to provide security and safeguards for every citizen, while upholding strong fiscal responsibility to secure resources for future generations. We are deepening reforms, fortifying progress, and accelerating Assam’s journey toward becoming one of India’s top five states. A Viksit Assam is no longer just a vision—it is a reality in the making, ensuring Assam emerges as a proud contributor to Viksit Bharat.
