Shillong, Feb 26: Local MLA from Mawkyrwat Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar has expressed concern at the attack on migrant labourers from Assam at the construction site of St Xavier’s College, Umoid in South West Khasi Hills.
Condemning the people involved in the incident, he said that Mawkyrwat has tourism potential and plans to discuss with the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on this.
“We plan to promote tourism in the area but such incidents discourage people to come to our side”, he said adding that people who were involved in the attack may have felt guilty.
In a message to disgruntled people, he said assaulting people is not a solution. He said, “I request youth to not take action when in anger. There is no problem to talk about it. Refrain from doing such practices.”
Tongkhar who is also a minister said that all documents regarding the permit were possessed by them.
It may be mentioned that eight labourers from Assam were attacked on Wednesday night by masked miscreants which led to the death of one person.
