Shillong, Sep 14: Reacting on the demand of the opposition to extend the upcoming Assembly Session, for a few more days, Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma said that the number of days the Assembly session is decided by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) where the opposition MLAs are also members.
Chief Minister on Thursday while reacting to the demand of the Voice of the People Party to extend the date of the session, he said that the number of days of the Autumn Session is exactly the same in the past.
Chief Minister also informed that there are normal bills which will be tabled during the session and there are some ordinances which need to be regularized.
It may be mentioned that the Autumn session of the eleventh Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from September 15 to September 22.
However, the opposition’s Voice of the People Party (VPP) expressing displeasure with the short duration of the upcoming autumn session of the Assembly, the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has demanded extension of the session by a few more days to enable the members to raise many issues of public importance.
In a letter to Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, VPP parliamentary party secretary, Heaving Stone Kharpran requested for extending the session for a few more days.
According to him, the party in its parliamentary party meeting held on August 31, had a long and threadbare discussion on the issues concerning the State and wished to take up these issues through the motions, resolutions, and questions.
