Jowai, Mar 30: In order to solve the issue of waste management in Jowai town, an issue which has been pending for years now, an awareness program on the importance of segregation of waste was organised at Loomiongkjam locality in Jowai on Wednesday.
The resource person Rev. (Dr.) H.H. Mohrmen stressed on the importance of converting Biodegradable waste as fertilizers and pig-feed.
During the program it was stressed on the current problem faced by the residents of Jowai Town and that Landfill is not the solution to the problem. It was also pointed out that the plastic wastes can be sent to the Cement factories as they can be used as fuel.
Others who spoke during the program were KL Pariat from “Khooid Yaka Wah Myntu” – an organistaion working for protection of Myntdu River, Bajop Lyngdoh from Society for Urban and Empower (SURE), amongst others.
