SHILLONG, Dec 15: Independent MLA from Baghmara Samuel M Sangma said that disassociating himself from the United Democratic Party (UDP) was a choice.

“It was my choice to disassociate (myself from the UDP),” Sangma told reporters after he was welcomed by the state BJP on Thursday.

Stating any political party is good, the MLA said he has decided to associate himself with the BJP for development.

“I joined the BJP for development and I believe under the leadership of Narendra Modi, more development will come,” he said.

When asked, Sangma said he does not need to resign as MLA to become full-fledged member of the BJP since he is an independent legislator.

“Once the term is over I will join and contest from a BJP ticket,” he clarified.
