SHILLONG, JUNE 9: Bindas Syiem on Saturday said she is determined to continue her hunger strike protest till a satisfactory assurance comes from the deputy chief minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong himself regarding the dilapidated Nongpoh-Umden to Sonapur road.
The mother of three children has been staging an indefinite hunger protest for the past three days to demand immediate construction of the road.
“I want the deputy chief minister in-charge PWD (Roads) to give a satisfactory assurance since he has the power,” Bindas, who is a resident of Umden, told reporters.
Earlier today, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem had met and requested Bindas to call off her agitation since the government has assured that the matter pertaining the road is under process.
“However, I will not trust if MLA or engineer of PWD given the assurance. Though, I am feeling weak, I am not ready to call off my protest till the deputy CM come and give the assurance infront of the people and to also mention the specific timeframe for completion of the same,” she added.
Syiem said that she was totally fed up with the false promises made during elections.
“Those who win and lose in the elections have promised to give us this road but it turned out to be just a lie. Because of this, I am totally frustrated given the fact that I personally had to face a lot of difficulties due to the condition of this road. Therefore, I feel that I have every right to demand for a better road,” she had stated.
