Shillong, Jan 20: The uncertainty within the United Democratic Party (UDP) continues as its long-standing leader will take on the newly recruited candidate in the highly charged 2023 Assembly polls in Nongkrem Constituency.

Bindo M Lanong, the founding member of the UDP, will take on the recently UDP joinee Lambor Malngiang.

In a press conference, Lanong said that he will contest the upcoming Assembly election as an independent candidate from the UDP-O (UDP Original) but will not part ways with the UDP as this is just a branch of the party. He said he will go all out against the party, but once the election is done, he will go back to the UDP.

“Immediately after the election, I will consider for amalgamation of my UDP-O, a branch of the UDP. I will go back to my parent body, it will be easier for me as the two three-leaders who opposed me are out,” he said.

However, Lanong said he has no intention of floating a new political party.
