Shillong, July 3: Co-Chairman of the State Law Commission, Bindo M Lanong has written to Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik into the recent murder of two Garo youth in Gurugram, Haryana.
In a letter to the Governor on Saturday, “While looking forward for justice and due punishment against the culprits, I would request your Honour, being the Constitutional Head of our State, to kindly use your good office to take up with the Centre and convey our grief and condemnation over the hoary incident and to bring the criminals to justice.”
He wondered how in northern India, such crimes are being regularly committed at will and many perpetrators of such crimes seem to get away at ease from the severe penalty of the law, deemed for such crimes.
Lanong also recalled his visit as Meghalaya Speaker to several religious sites in Haryana, the Kuruk Shetra, Mahabharat Auditorium and such other sites, when he attended the All India President conference in Haryana in 2008.
“The present incident leaves me at a loss to imagine the criminal attitude of many in North India, compared to our people who live in harmony with everyone,” he said while adding “Your kind message will go a long way to create a better atmosphere in the country and solace to the family in grief and others concerned.”
