BJP leaders meet in New Delhi to finalise candidates for Tripura polls

Agartala, Jan 27: For finalising candidates for the upcoming Tripura Assembly polls, top leaders of the BJP party including party chief JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Saha and other BJP leaders held a meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.

The 60-member Tripura Assembly will go to polls on February 16. The last date for filling nominations is January 30. The counting of votes will be on March 2.

Before the meeting, BJP’s Tripura unit’s core group members met at party leader Sambit Patra’s residence, who is also the northeast in-charge.

In 2018, the BJP formed the government for the first time in Tripura, ending the 25-year rule of the CPI-M. BJP and IPFT are alliance in Tripura but this time seat sharing between the two or any decisions regarding alliance has not been discussed yet.

According to sources, BJP is likely to finalise its candidates for Tripura assembly polls on Friday in its central election committee meeting.
