BJP Mahila Morcha Leader seeks judicial intervention in South West Garo Hills rape incident

Shillong, April 22: In a letter to the Honourable Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, the President of the Bhartiya Janata Party, Mahila Morcha, Susuki Pariat, has urged for immediate action in the incident of gang rape in South West Garo Hills.

The BJP leader, in a letter addressed to the Chief Justice, emphasized on the gravity of the crime, and urged for suo moto action against the offenders. The letter appealed for a comprehensive investigation by the police department and for the earliest arrest of the culprits, she further expressed her faith in the judiciary.

Two minor girls were assaulted and raped on April 17 evening during the ongoing festivities – Chenga Benga Mela, at Gandhipara village near Garobadha in South West Garo Hills. Police have registered a case under Ampati PS and investigation is on. The South West Garo Hills Police administration has constituted an SIT to probe the matter.
