Aizawl, March 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept the Village Council (VC) elections of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), held on Wednesday. The party won in 64 out of 88 Village Councils, resulting in winning 366 out of the 516 total seats.
BJP candidates won 304 General and 62 Reserved seats.
The elections saw 977 candidates in the fray, with 826 contesting General seats and 151 competing for Reserved seats. The total number of registered voters in the district stood at 37,883, comprising 19,162 male and 18,721 female voters.
The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) emerged as the second-largest party, securing 12 Village Councils with 81 seats (67 General and 14 Reserved). Meanwhile, the Mizo National Front (MNF) managed to win 8 Village Councils, and independent candidates secured two councils. Results for two Village Councils remain undeclared.
Following the landslide victory, the Mizoram BJP unit expressed gratitude to the voters, stating that the party’s focus on development in the CADC had earned it the people’s trust. BJP attributed its success to grassroots efforts and strong support from the Central Government, which has prioritized development initiatives in the district.
The victory marks a growing political presence of the BJP in Mizoram, especially in the CADC, where the party has been making inroads over the past few years.
